It’s hard for me to talk about what I miss because I didn’t have a very good time in my country. Honestly, I don’t miss much about Honduras, except for my family. I hope to cross as soon as possible, since life in Mexico is also difficult—but still better than back home. Here, I skate and rap with some friends. I have fun."</image:caption>

<image:caption>FRANCISCO JAVIER LÓPEZ MORALES, GUERRERO, MÉXICO. SANTA MUERTE NECKLACE. "I’m looking for asylum due to the violence in my town. My friend in Guerrero gave me this Santa Muerte necklace before I left. When I put it over my chest, I felt it heavy. I told him, and he said, ‘It has power. I’ve been saving it for you.’ For me, it’s not just protection — it’s a piece of home, of someone who believes I’ll make it. This image is protecting me and will help me cross. I have an appointment soon — that’s why it’s so important to me. It gives me strength when I feel afraid."</image:caption>

In the region, these groups have begun recruiting minors to confront drug cartels, putting their childhood and future at risk. This phenomenon has been documented on several occasions, especially in communities such as Ayahualtempa, Tlapa, and Chilapa, where minors join self-defense groups to protect themselves from violence. Some children do so voluntarily, motivated by the desire to protect their families. This protest, which took place a few days before Children’s Day, is a cry of resistance against violence and forced recruitment. The children, dressed in festive attire for a traditional dance, demand to be heard and to live a childhood free from weapons and war.</image:caption>
